About Us

Welcome to Griffith Play and Learn!

We would love to have you come along and visit us.

We only meet every Wednesday during School term times

We run on Wednesdays from 9.30 -11.30 during term time out of the former Griffith Pre-school site at 20 Stoke Street. We have a strong nature/outdoor focus with the aim of spending all of our time outside exploring and playing in our expansive fully fenced gardens.  However, if we are unlucky with the weather we have ample play space indoors and undercover to work with.  We are passionate about child led, free play.  You won't find a lot of structure in our sessions but what you will hopefully see is happy engaged children exploring and creating with a wide range of either natural or recycled open ended materials.

Griffith Play and Learn is a collaborative playgroup.  What does this mean?  Simply that each family is an equal participant and all of us work together to make the playgroup a success.  This of course involves, setting up and packing up together (many hands make light work) but also talking together to ensure that the playgroup is meeting all of our children’s and carers needs.  We aim to meet once a term to discuss matters concerning management of the playgroup (usually in the evening at a local pub).  Although not compulsory, attendance in encouraged to ensure that everyone gets a say.  These events are fun and a good way to socialise as a group.  Weekly emails keep the group up to date with important events and allow us a chance to evaluate how our sessions are running. We have a lot of freedom to go with what the group wants to do together in terms of activities, play ideas and events.

To come along and visit the playgroup for the first time is free.  Simply bring yourselves and some clothes to get dirty in.  We like mud!!  Also we recommend to bring a snack or morning tea for when you and your little ones get hungry.  We bring the kids together for a midmorning snack of cut oranges around 10.30 but otherwise, just go with the flow and the children are free to eat when they need to.  A lot of parents bring along a cuppa in a thermos to sip and enjoy but that’s up entirely up to you.

If you have fun on your visit and can't wait to join us again it's a very simple process.  The first thing to do is become a financial member of ACT playgroups which costs $35 a year.  This covers our playgroup for insurance purposes.  Membership forms can be sourced online at https://www.playgroupaustralia.com.au/act/go/join-now or we have hard copies you can take away, fill in and free post at the playgroup.  After that it costs $30 per family per term to come along and play.  $10 of this goes towards the venue hire and $20 we put aside for consumables and purchases the group decides to make (paint/ playdough materials/ play equipment etc).  New members joining after Week 5 of term pay $15.

If your keen to find out a bit more before diving in you can check out our Facebook page; Griffith Play and Learn, where we try to keep a blog of photos and stories of what we get up to each week.
