About Us

There are many people in Canberra who have a personal or family association with St John’s parish who want to support its work.

The Friends help preserve the church building, its fittings and environs for future generations and welcomes membership from parishioners and the wider community.

The Friends organise special Choral Mattins services (from the 1662 Prayer Book) with a distinguished guest speaker. These services are followed by light refreshments which provides the opportunity to talk further with the guest speaker and to meet others.

There is a Friends committee who organise the speaker program and develop projects for minor work around the church, e.g. furniture restoration, altar cushions, etc.

They are trustees of the Dunrossil Lecture Fund (named after a bequest from the late Lord Dunrossil, the only Governor-General to have died in office) which can be used to cover the costs of internationally distinguished speakers who come to Canberra.

To join the Friends please download a Friends brochure and membership form from our website.
