About Us
The Inclusive Volunteering Program (IVP) is an initiative of VolunteeringACT that aims to assist people with barriers in finding volunteering roles in the ACT. Volunteering is a great way to help others, gain new skills and to feel connected to community. Almost 1 in 4 people in the ACT are volunteers and over the last decade there has been an increase in the amount of hours spent volunteering across Australia. The positive impact that volunteering has on organisations and individuals is immense however some Australians might feel like they have a barrier that is preventing them from gaining a suitable volunteering role.
IVP was developed to take the stress out of finding a volunteering role and has helped over 100 people with barriers find rewarding volunteer work in the ACT. People identifying as having a barrier may include:
- People living with a disability.
- People experiencing mental health issues.
- People who are socially isolated.
- People with communication and language difficulties.
- Refugees and migrants.
IVP participants have been able to find volunteer roles in a number of different areas including:
- Office administration.
- Conservation.
- Retail.
- Marketing/promotional work.
- Hospitality and
- Other activities such as gardening.
Becoming a participant of IVP takes the hard work out of finding a volunteering role in the ACT. You will meet with our IVP Coordinator who will spend the time with you to learn about who you are as an individual and what you are hoping to gain by volunteering. If you have faced barriers in the past that have prevented you from finding a volunteering role our coordinator will work with you to identify solutions and will contact volunteer involving organisations on your behalf to find you the role you deserve. IVP works closely with its participants to create positive relationships with their chosen volunteer organisation that are based on trust and understanding.

VolunteeringACT is the peak body for volunteering and community information in the Canberra Region, as well as being a service provider of programs for people experiencing disadvantage and isolation, people with disability, and people needing support for mental wellness. We have a vision of an inclusive Canberra, and a mission to foster inclusion by enabling participation and connection. We connect people to volunteering opportunities; support volunteer involving organisations with training, advice and volunteer recruitment; make sure information on services and supports is easily accessible to everyone through our Community Information services; support people experiencing disadvantage; and provide programs to help people reconnect with their community and access supported volunteering roles. VolunteeringACT is a people driven, service-focused organisation that represents the interests of about 200 members, advocates for and supports volunteers, and engages with the broader Canberra community.
