Queensland Community Care Network

At Queensland Community Care Network Inc. we manage a volunteer program of people visiting elderly people  who live in residential care. Our service extends from the Gold Coast in South East Queensland to Central Queensland in the North and as far west as Roma.

What is the Community Visitors Scheme?

The Community Visitors Scheme (CVS) is a program funded by the Australian Federal Government. The CVS aims to enrich the quality of life of residents in aged care homes who are feeling lonely or receiving very few visitors by finding volunteers (Community Visitors) who have one hour a fortnight to visit them. It is hoped that eventually, the Community Visitor and resident will become friends and combat the resident’s social isolation.

What do Community Visitors do?

As a Community Visitor, you are asked to commit to visiting your resident friend for at least one hour a fortnight. Visits should be spent doing something you both enjoy – you might want to read, listen to music, chat and reminisce, or watch a favourite TV program together. If the resident is able you may want to go for a walk together or have an outing. The activities you undertake will depend on what your resident and yourself would like to do.

Who will I visit?

There is need for volunteers in almost every aged care home in Queensland.  Therefore, QCCN discusses with volunteers which aged care home near them would be most convenient to visit.  We never ask you to go too far out of your way to volunteer.  QCCN will make every effort match you with a resident who shares with you a strong interest or long-standing hobby. It could be anything from gardening or tapestry to Australian Rules football. We want to ensure that you get as much out of befriending someone, as they will get out of your visits!  QCCN is also able to match you with someone who speaks a specific language if you require.
