About Us

The Volunteers In Policing Program (VIP) involves local community members, (as volunteers), supporting police officers in carrying out their duties. The primary role of a VIP is one of support for the community, witnesses and victims of crime. The duties of VIP's are an integral part of the delivery of policing services and could involve the following responsibilities: * Victim support - providing support to victims of crime; * Witness support - assisting witnesses in understanding their responsibilities and the processes of the criminal justice system; * Community liaison - furthering the Services links with the community and referral agencies; * Conducting home security assessments and engraving property; * Liaising with community groups and participating in community-based activities; * School support - enhancing the Services interaction with school communities; * Community based policing - liaising with community groups and participating in community based initiatives; and * Customer service - assisting community members with general enquiries and accessing relevant government or non government services.
