About Us

Welcome to Kurbingui
The Kurbingui Youth Development Limited. (KYDAII) is a not-for-profit organization incorporated in 2001 and today employs thirteen staff to implement a range of programs aimed at improving the quality of life for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families across the Brisbane region. Our name Kurbingui, means ‘the transition from boy to man’, which comes from the Turrabul language and demonstrates the organisations original purpose of providing healthy and positive lifestyle pathways and opportunities for young people and their families.

Our Mission:
To address the disadvantage and poverty experienced by the indigenous community including non-indigenous young people in achieving their rights of passage to a safe future in the community, through the provision of programs and services designed to alleviate isolation poverty discrimination and unemployment.

The Kurbingui Youth Development Association Inc. operational model has a multi agency focus, based on partnerships and collaborative working relationships that allows for the sharing of resources, and improved outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families.

Kurbingui Youth Development Association Inc. operates across the suburbs of Northern Brisbane, and now extends to the Southern suburbs of Brisbane including Inala, Cleveland Wynnum and Stradbroke Island. Activities primarily target all Indigenous families, including children with complex family issues in the geographic location. Secondarily we interact with non-Indigenous organisations to facilitate improved referral and engagement with the Indigenous population, and with schools, school students, teachers and parents within this location.
