Since 1997 Micah Projects has endeavoured to assist people access the housing or accommodation option of their choice and provide the range of support services required; services which can enable people to have personal and individualised responses, opportunity for peer engagement and access to opportunities for social and economic participation in the community.

In the provision of services to people with disability, Micah Projects is directed by the principles of the UN Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities:

  • Respect for the inherent dignity, individual autonomy, including freedom to make one’s own choices, and independence of persons;
  • Non-discrimination;
  • Full and effective participation and inclusion in society;
  • Respect for the difference and acceptance of persons with disabilities as part of human diversity and humanity;
  • Equal opportunity;
  • Accessibility;
  • Equality between men and women;
  • Respect for the evolving capacities of children with disabilities and respect for the right of children to preserve their identities.

Micah Projects works within a Recovery and Wellness framework when engaging with people impacted by mental illness within our services, our workplace and our community. The concept of recovery is embedded in recognition of both the unique and personal journey of each person, as well as the role of an organisation in facilitating and/or enabling a person to undertake this process in order to live well, despite any limitations resulting from illness, its treatment, and personal and environmental conditions.

Therefore in the provision of services to people with a mental illness, Micah Projects is directed by the following principles:

Hope: supporting a person to achieve their aspirations.

Choices: supporting a person to access services, resources, and opportunity in the community.

Equality and Respect: recognition of the journey of recovery as unique to each person, engaging with people in planning and decision making.

Self Assurance: supporting a person with information and knowledge to make informed decisions.

Trauma Informed Practice: recognising the prevalence of traumatic stress as experienced by each person.

Social Inclusion: providing practical support to enable a person connection with family, friends and community.

Partnership and Communication: a commitment to work with a person and the services that support them.

Human Rights: every child and adult has the right to a home, an income, health care, education, safety, dignity and connection with their community of choice.

Micah Projects promotes person centred, trauma sensitive and recovery oriented practice.
