About Us
In efforts to meet the needs of our local schools, the Bayside PCYC has improved its Bike–ed and School Sports programs. Both of these programs would make an exciting extension to any education curriculum. These programs use equipment and facilities that schools don’t have room for. They also require qualifications most schools teachers don’t have and don’t need to have. Bike-ed is a program designed by the Queensland Transport Department to provide Years 4-5 riders with practical road use skills. The principal instructor is accredited with the Transport Department and has 10 years experience in delivering the program to many of our local schools. The programs consists of 6 one hour lessons and the students are transported to the Bayside PCYC, in our bus/s, for practical lesson on our bikes. Beside the improvement of general riding skills and bicycle maintenance, the bike-ed course covers basic road rules, intersections and Traffic Awareness,it concludes with both a written and practical riding assessment, a certificate is awarded on completion. The primary aim of the course is to keep our children safe by giving them a respect for the road which will no doubt make them better drivers of motor vehicles when they get to that stage of life.
