General Welfare & Support Services

About Us

(1) StreetWatch was raised up in response to the many unmet needs of Brisbane city homeless, ‘street people’ and the disenfranchised.

VAKS - Vans And KitchenS (a part of the StreetWatch initative) is a dynamic intuitive website that is intended to support the many voluntary, autnomous and independent community organisations and groups who offer who offer a range of services distinctively by way of a van or kitchen.

'VAKS' in itself, does not have its own van or kitchen.

VAKS is not an organisation but a community service website. It has been constructed for ease of use by anyone needing to know the when, where, what and who of a van or kitchen, and has been designed with users, providers, welfare agencies, public organisations and the general public in mind. This website can be used as tool to promote the services of each of the providers who have given their information to VAKS, without impeding on their autonomy or their organisational structure.

It also offers a loose-knit forum and a common point of contact for providers, with the added advantage of being a notice board for information and updates.
The goal is simply to provide a ‘one-stop-shop’ resource for anyone seeking information about a van or kitchen around inner Brisbane, Queensland’s Great South East and soon, nationally.

(2) NightWatch focusses on public safety in public spaces, overnight. Every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night from 11pm til early morning, the NightWatch Chaplains pro-actively patrol the Brisbane entertainment precincts, watching out for anyone in crisis, at risk or in need. We offer a unique, non-authoritarian service, which encompasses crisis intervention, conflict resolution, front-line first aid, public counseling and guidance, secondary victim support and welfare assistance. This rapid response service works in partnership with other official services - Police, Ambulance, City Council, venue management and security, taxi operations and other city stakeholders.

NightSafe (a part of the NightWatch service) is set up in cooperation with the State Government in response to the many safety issues that surround the Fortitude Valley Entertainment precinct overnight and the nighttime economy.

The Rest and Recovery space is a bold initiative that effectively diverts minor and less serious incidents from clogging the emergency departments of our hospitals, ambulance service and police watchhouses, with notable cost effectiveness.

Functioning at peak times every weekend, the staff and volunteers of NightSafe are well trained and highly self-motivated to provide a service that is proficient, resourceful and successful.

NightSafe is located at shop 4, 31 Duncan Street (Chinatown Mall), Fortitude Valley.

(3) LifeWatch's motivation is to see the many issues that corporations, professionals and the workplace face are met through workplace Chaplains who offer a raft of skills and understanding.  Through a variety of volunteer, part-time and fully-funded positions our WorkWatch Chaplains are able to integrate into the workplace with seamless effectiveness and close quarter care. It is not only a unique and dynamic response to the many issues that face humanity from the cradle to the grave, but also the Chaplain intuitively carries with them the greatest gift of all - hope.
