About Us

SEQUEST was formed on August 1st, 2009 with the aim of providing a community-focused volunteer emergency radio monitoring group to members of the public who use CB radio and also improving services to the CB Radio network. In 2011 we moved into marine radio and to help with coverage across Moreton Bay and surrounding inland waterways for when local blue water rescue groups are closed or areas of radio coverage can not reach.

As an ACMA licenced limited coast marine rescue station we provide a maritime emergency radio communications service to all vessels.

When SEQUEST was founded the original name was South East Queensland UHF Emergency Team (SEQUET) the name "SERVICE" was added then became known as "SEQUEST".

2011 was a big year for SEQUEST not only dealing with the flood disaster around southeast Queensland SEQUEST expanded its operation's into the maritime radio network and obtained its first ACMA licence "VND717" limited coast non assigned. Dedicated to helping and assisting the maritime community and supporting volunteer marine rescue groups.

During 2013 once again played a role in assisting the community's around South East Queensland. Volunteers put in so many tireless hours to keep social media services updated and man radio emergency channels for calls for assistance from the Lockyer Valley to Fraser Coast

In 2016 our founder Shane Barnes was awarded the City of Ipswich Medallion for recognition of the valuable contribution made over a period of time to the Ipswich community. Shane was also nominated for the inaugural Queensland Volunteering Awards.

Another milestone that was added to the list was the purchase of IPS06 UHF CB Repeater.

In 2017 our Jimboomba base assisted with communications in the area due to river flooding from the Logan river from ex TC Debbie. Over 100 calls for information updates were requested.

Also, our organisation was invited by the QLD Government to join as a member of the Emergency Volunteer Advisory Forum.

SEQUEST has also been involved in many local community events such as Leukemia Foundations Light the Night, Brisbane Convoy for Kids, Oxfam Brisbane Trailwalker, VMR Brisbane Community & Emergency Expo, Brisbane All Emergency Services Expo, and now the Marine Rescue Bribie Expo.
