U3A Pine Rivers - University of the Third Age

U3A is an education movement which caters for persons in the 'third age' and for those who have retired, promoting the concept of studying simply for the joy of learning. It is not a formal University, and does not offer formal qualifications not set academic qualifications as a pre requisite for entry. Classes are offered in many areas in Pine Rivers Shire and in private homes. The service plays a vital role in improving the quality of life of retired persons. The courses are run by volunteer tutors and include: * Bridge * Various Computer Skills * Strolling Through History * The Craft Club * Art Classes * Gentle Exercise * Beginners Folk Art * Armchair Travel * Current Affairs * Piano/Music Encouragement Group * Book Discussion Group in 2 Libraries * English & Australian Literature * Italian * Spanish Beginners & Intermediate * Strong People Stay Young - Strength Training * Walking Group * Geological Events * Sociology * Photography * Furniture Restoration * Quilting * Anatomy and Physiology U3A is permitted to attend some of QUT's Humanities Department lectures at Carseldine campus, for no cost, and no exam. There are social mornings once a month where members meet for a chat and a cup of tea, and once every term there is a speaker. U3A also arranges social outings every term to places of interest.
