About Us

The Registrar of Aboriginal Corporations is an independent statutory office holder appointed by the Minister for Family Community Services and Indigenous Affairs under the Aboriginal Councils and Associations Act 1976 (the Act). The Office of the Registrar of Aboriginal Corporations (ORAC) assists the Registrar in administering the Act. The services delivered by ORAC in incorporation, regulation and related services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander corporations includes: * Assisting groups through the process of incorporation; * Providing support services for groups once they are incorporated on all matters including the managing of disputes and assisting members of corporations with issues and/or complaints about corporations; * Maintaining a public register of incorporated Indigenous associations; * Ensuring compliance with the Act. ORAC also provides accredited and non-accredited training to members of Governing Committees and Boards of Indigenous corporations about the Act, the Corporations Constitution and other aspects of effective corporate governance.
