AAC embraces unified Defence Values On the 1st of October 2020 the Secretary and Chief of the Defence Force released a unifying set of Values across Defence. For the first time in Defence's history we have the same set of Defence Values across Army, Air Force, Navy and the Defence civilian workforce. Given the Australian Army Cadet's alignment with Army, our values will transition from Courage, Initiative, Respect and Teamwork to: • Service. The selflessness of character to place the security and interests of our nation and its people ahead of my own. • Courage. The strength of character to say and do the right thing, always, especially in the face of adversity. • Respect. The humanity of character to value others and treat them with dignity. • Integrity. The consistency of character to align my thoughts, words and actions to do what is right. • Excellence. The willingness of character to strive each day to be the best I can be, both professionally and personally. To live the Defence Values, we ask that you: • Act with purpose for the nation. • Be adaptable, innovative and agile. • Collaborate and be team-focused. • Be accountable and trustworthy. • Reflect, learn and improve. • Be inclusive and value others. It is important to recognise that the values of Initiative and Teamwork, are still important, as are many other values that underpin appropriate behaviour and what it means to be a good community member and leaders. The new values are a reflection of what Defence holds as central to the performance of its people. The AACs expectation of its people align strongly with these values, and as we transition to including the new values within our policy, training and branding, we are encouraging Army Cadet Units and cadets to commence conversations about what these values mean to them and our organisation.
