Queensland Gaelic Football And Hurling Association
About Us
Our organisation is the home of the Irish Gaelic Football and Hurling in Queensland. Established in 1982, it originated as a monthly informal ‘kick-about’ for mostly Irish ex-pats, who were missing the camradrie and familiarity of their national sport.
Today, the organisation is one of the largest Gaelic Football bodies in Australia, catering for over 600 people on an annual basis. The organisation provides a vital service to both the Irish and wider community, between providing the grounds as a venue for local schools and community events, to ensuring that the local community in Queensland always have a game or an event to attend, and a reason to play and/or contribute in a national sport.
Every single person is always welcome to our clubhouse and to our associated Clubs, the belief that the community is a powerful tool in the prevention of loneliness or depression is entrenched within the values of our association, having unfortunately had first hand experience of the devestation that these can cause.
Currently under the leadership of President Kieran Long, this year marks the coming of the annual Australasian State Games to Queensland, our first since the devastating impact of the 2011 floods.
